Complainant/Victim: Brian William Carlson, Age 49 of Lowry, MN

Case Details:

On 07/23/19 at approximately 1725 hours, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office received a couple 9-1-1 cell phone calls from a distraught female caller. The dispatchers were eventually able to determine the female was calling from the Lake Burgen public access area. A Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy arrived on scene a few minutes later, located the female caller and was told that a male subject had been swimming near the public access boat ramp and had not resurfaced. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Dive Rescue Team was paged along with North Ambulance and Life Link III.
Douglas County Deputies, Alexandria Police Officers and Dive Rescue Team personnel began a water search for the subject. Life Link III also assisted in conducting an aerial water search.
At approximately 1757 hours, the male subject was located underwater east of the Lake Burgen public access boat ramp, about 50 feet from shore and in approximately 10 feet of water. Rescue personnel initiated resuscitation efforts as the male subject was brought to shore. North Ambulance and Life Link III personnel took over resuscitation efforts. The resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
The male subject was later transported to the Midwest Medical Examiners Office in Ramsey, MN for cause of death determination.
This case remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Midwest Medical Examiners Office.
