Douglas County property owners will not be able to pay their property taxes in person. Taxes are due May 15, but the Douglas County Courthouse is currently not open to the public because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Douglas County Auditor Treasurer Char Rosenow says there are easy alternatives to counter service.

Those options are:

  • Using the silver tax payment drop box at the south side entrance to the courthouse at 305 8th Avenue West Alexandria. The drop box is locked and is checked several times a day. A receipt is available by including a note with payment.
  • Mailing tax payments, in the envelope provided, to the Douglas County Auditor/Treasurer’s Office at 305 8th Avenue West, Alexandria MN 56308. Include the tax payment stub along with a check. A receipt is available by including a note with payment.
  • Paying online by credit card or e-check using the Douglas County website and looking under the quick link “I Want To” and clicking on Pay Property Taxes. People will need to include their parcel id number (9-digit number on tax statement) to pull up the tax payment information on the parcel. Property owners can pay by credit card which includes a 2.5% fee, or by electronic check which charges an additional $1.50 up until a $10,000 payment, after which the fee increases.

For more information people can call 320-762-3077.  The Douglas County Auditor/Treasurer’s staff is working normal business hours.
