It’s time to apply! The Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) has the process in place for qualified residents to apply for free college.

At its December 21 meeting, the Douglas County Commissioners approved $500,000 in federal funds for RAISE, the Retraining, Academic Instruction, and Skills Enhancement initiative.
Through this initiative ATCC and the county aim to assist Douglas County residents interested in taking skill-building courses and courses for college credit.
The funds became available through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Board Chairperson Tim Kalina sits on the committee that decides how to spend these funds.
He says this initiative is a perfect fit, “Residents will get the training they need, and our employers will find qualified men and women to fill the many job openings in our county.”

A special thanks also goes to Nicole Fernholz, the executive director of the Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission, who alerted ATCC about the available funds. Learn more about that here
