Case Details:

Driver 1: Harlan Oberg, Age 64 of Alexandria, MN
Driver 2: Nathaniel Butler, Age 36 of Fargo, ND


On February 13, 2022, at about 9:40 AM the Douglas County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a snowmobile accident that had occurred on E Moe Rd. The caller reported that the individual involved was unconscious and unresponsive. Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies, Garfield First Responders and North Memorial Ambulance responded on scene.

During the investigation it was determined that Harlan and Nathaniel who was on separate snowmobile were heading northbound of E Moe road when Harlan had attempted to get over a snow bank. However, Harlan was unaware that the snowbank had iced over, so when he attempted to get over, the snowmobile collided with the ice and he lost control. Harlan was not able to hold on and fell off of the snowmobile landing on his back and head becoming unconscious from the fall. Harlan was wearing a helmet, which showed a cracked visor from the fall.

Nathaniel witnessed the accident and was able to call 911, Dispatch immediately called for Garfield First Responders and North Memorial Ambulance to the scene. Garfield First Responders were first on scene and gave immediate medical attention. Harlan was conscious and breathing at this time, Sheriff's Deputies and North Ambulance arrived on scene a short while after. Due to the nature of the injuries, it was determined to do an immediate transport to Alomere Hospital.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Garfield First Responders and North Memorial Ambulance for their assistance on scene.
